I was having some problems with a game and support told me to do a “clean install” of the graphics drivers. I didn’t read the entire instructions the support guy gave me, so I did a dumb and thought that meant I needed to uninstall my graphics drivers and then install new ones, when what I should have done is used one of NVIDIA’s built in tools.
So I deleted my graphics drivers and when I tried to install new ones it said something along the lines of “sorry we can’t find a graphics card to install these to”. I then tried installing the original drivers that came with my laptop from the official site, but that didn’t work either.
What do I do?
I assume that it’s basically just not seeing the graphics card even though it is there?
I’ve tried a system restore from yesterday. Unfortunately, it didn’t work and instead froze after 2 hours. When I rebooted it the restore point was gone and my graphics card was still missing.
The graphics card doesn’t appear in Device Manager normally. I’ve tried rebooting multiple times, searching for new devices, and showing hidden devices for the Display Adapters tab to show up.
After some deeper searching I was able to find it in Device Manager. It’s shown as “Video Controller (VGA Compatible)” underneath “Other Devices” as a hidden device. Underneath the Device Status it says:
“Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.”
The problem is, it’s a laptop and the video card is soldered on, so I can’t reconnect it.
I was able to update drivers by the “search automatically for updated driver software” and it found drivers for my GTX 1070. This didn’t do anything though (even after a reboot) and they seem to also disappear after a reboot.
I’ve also tried messing around in BIOS but I didn’t see anything that looked useful.
Honestly idk what else there is I can do. I really need some help.
Edit: solved thanks to u/NoParadox
Edit 2: why did this blow up I was just trying to get help lol
