I hope this is the right place to post this…
The other night, I got a text from my landlord with a photo of my Computer’s name and IP address, with the claim that my device had downloaded illegal information, and that if it continues, the police would be contacted and the culprit would be evicted.
I live in a shared home/AirBnB with 3 other couples, and have only ever used my computer to download and play games, watch youtube and netflix, and fill out job applications. I don’t understand how this could ever happen. I sadly suspect one of the other tenants to be the culprit, and have since turned off all forms of network sharing and enabled random hardware addresses, but I am still locked out of the internet on my laptop. Could one of my roommates have even accomplished this? If so, how likely is it that this is the case?

So our Landlord/Host just admitted that they have no idea which device on the Network was Torrenting, and yet again sent the photo they sent 2 days ago of my now outdated device name and MAC address. Seems at random they just decided to single me out through the App that allows them to manage devices on the router. I changed my device name and enabled random hardware addresses and I’m able to use the internet again 🙂 Lucky me and my Fiancée are on a month to month lease, and can not wait to find a new place, with internet that we pay for.
