I used to play a game called Spelunky, it’s a roguelike platformer and it ran perfectly well on my laptop (Asus VivoBook, AMD Ryzen 5 and Vega 8 Graphics). A few months ago it started having framerate issues, running around 50fps but with really bad fluctuations and frame drops when I moved or jumped, making it pretty unplayable. After months of searching for a solution, I found one last night at the very bottom of a steam discussion thread: Run it with VLC media player open. And it works. It works perfectly. Consistent 60fps with no fluctuations. I don’t understand it at all. I don’t know how the two would even interact, let alone how it improves performance. So just a few minutes ago I was thinking about it and I decided to try it with another game, Halo Combat Evolved for PC, which would only run at 15-20 fps before. Perfect 60. What the fuck. How is this possible?
VLC Media Player fixed all of my game performance issues and I’m confused.
