It happened. I watched files on a flash drive disappear right before my eyes.

Files just don’t delete themselves, right?

My boyfriend says “that’s the problem with flash memory.” But says he doesn’t know how to explain the science behind it.

Flash Drive: ~150GB

Use: for temporary storage before I hook up my mechanical hard drive.

Project: Scan old photos for archive project at 1200 dpi.

What I was doing: Scanning 3 photos on my Epson V600 flatbed scanner. I had the V600 software open up the folder it is saving the .tifs to. Each scan of batch photos is about 400MB.

It opens up the folder for my first scan. It’s not there.

I go and check what the file destination is. It is saving to default: Desktop. Ok uh.. weird. I guess I must have clicked default by accident. I go to my desktop, see the file, cut, and paste it to my flash drive to the designated folder I need it in. I go back to my scanning software and change the file destination to the flash drive.

This is when I mention to my boyfriend that I felt weird about what was going on. So I opened up the folder on the flash drive where I put the scan file and it’s there! I click on it …

AND IT DISAPPEARS! GONE FROM EXISTENCE!

I tried to scan to the flash drive two more times after that and every time it opened the file location after it scanned, they weren’t there, and NOWHERE on my computer.

Then.. I go microwave a corn dog in anger.

I come back, open the flash file… AND ONE OF THE FILES IS THERE! Able to be viewed and previewed!

Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on? This flash drive is possessed!

If you explain the science behind it, I’m all ears.
