I don’t know if these things are related, but i became aware of them at the same time, so i will assume that while one might not cause the other, that they at least have a common cause.
Firefox: 82.0.3 (64)
uBlock: 1.30.6
Windwows 10 (64), 32Gig RAM
Hope i got all the important info. if not, please let me know!
What happens is, that for some reason when i am trying to watch a youtube video, instead of no ads the yt player is white, with a “Skip Ad” button and a small progress circle.
Sometimes i can click the skip button (or the ad is over and the video starts properly), and sometimes (possibly not related to the click, but to time passed) Firefox alerts me that “a website is slowing down the browser. wait, stop website, deactivate add on on this website”.
as soon as that happens i can see how FF Memory usage starts to rise quickly at a rate of about a GB a minute and any other website i open has a chance of also displaying this warning. Waiting or reloading never helps, since memory usage stays on 28 GB once it’s reached that point. only way to interact with the affected tab is to copy and paste the link into another tab and closing the old one (which can take multiple seconds) – or to restart the browser entirely, which is annoying.
ive tried blocking and ublocking elements in the advanced settings of uBlock, to no avail. I haven’t tried it without it for any significant amount of time, since i just cant deal with youtube ads (they have gotten so frequent now, that i am just a hair away from outright stopping to use youtube on mobile).
I really don’t want another adblocker (at least not ABP), but if there is one similar to Ublock i might try that.
to my knowledge i havent changed anything that might have caused that to happen.
